A six year extension to the Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centres
initiative was recently announced by the Minister of Canadian Heritage and
Official Languages, the Honourable James Moore.
"I am very pleased to announce this extension," said Minister Moore. "Our government is committed to providing Aboriginal young people with culturally focused programming that helps tomorrow's leaders build strong communities and families."
The initiative recently renamed Cultural Connections for Aboriginal Youth has designed and implemented approximately 220 projects per year since its creation, with the projects supported by the Aboriginal Youth Advisory Committees.
It is expected that the $150 million investment will give young Aboriginal people from the ages of 10 to 24, programming that helps strengthen cultural identity. It will incorporate Aboriginal values, cultures, and traditional practices in projects and activities also designed to improve their social, economic, and personal prospects.
