Former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Phil Fontaine, has accepted an offer to join the Board of Directors for One Earth Farms Corp., the organization with plans to become the largest farm in Canada through partnerships with First Nations.
"I am excited to be part of a unique and
transformative company," Fontaine stated in a press release. "(To) help move
First Nations directly into the farming industry and create new training,
employment and business opportunities."
One Earth Farms is a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Sprott Resource Corp. Representatives for the company said they
look forward to having Fontaine's perspective in future initiatives, which they
expect will be especially useful in establishing partnerships with First Nations
communities.
"The success we have achieved to date working with First Nations in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta can only be enhanced by the addition of Chief Fontaine to our Board," stated Larry Ruud, President and CEO of One Earth Farms.
"His deep relationship and commitment to the advancement of First Nations people will help guide us as we continue to develop and expand our business."
Since retiring from politics, Fontaine founded his own consulting practice and was appointed Special Advisor to the Royal Bank of Canada in
September 2009. Throughout his time in office, Fontaine called for greater
engagement by the business community with First Nations.
