The Prince Albert Aboriginal Headstart Preschool recently turned out its first-ever graduating class. The preschool opened last fall and enjoyed a good initial response from parents.

The 31 graduates celebrated as they performed two songs for an enthusiastic crowd of teachers and family members at the Prince Albert Friendship Centre. Mistawasis drum group Lightning Spirit led by Vern Harper also performed, and Cree spiritual advisor Stuart Amyotte led the ceremony with a prayer. Wendy Pelligrini, director of the preschool, said the first year went extremely well, with only a few kinks to be worked out. In its second year the school will offer two full-time programs instead of part-time programs and has already signed up 38 new students, leaving only two openings.
