When the chiefs and councils from the File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC) headed to the polls on Sept. 25 one name was missing from the list. After 15 years in the tribal council, Ron Crowe decided not to run for re-election. It's time to take a break from the duties of a politician and administrator, and time to become "Joe Indian," as well as a family man, Crowe said. After graduating from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College in 1988, Crowe was elected vice-chairman of the tribal council, and served in the position until 1998. He's served as the FHQTC's chairman for the past five years. During that time, the FHQTC has taken a larger role in providing government services for its band members, while also building the Treaty 4 Governance Centre, and the new Fort Qu'Appelle Indian Hospital, which is slated to open in the summer of 2004.
