Contract signed with RCMP for another 20 years

The provincial and federal governments have concluded four years of negotiations which have led to the RCMP providing services in Saskatchewan for another 20 years, from April 1, 2012 until March 31, 2032. The contract continues the current cost-sharing model, with the province paying 70 per cent of the costs and the federal government covering the remaining 30 per cent. “It’s absolutely incredible the working relationship that we have with the province. And I know that through that relationship we will achieve many of the challenges that face us today and into the future relative to policing,” said RCMP Chief Supt. Russ Mirasty, the commanding officer in Saskatchewan. Mirasty is the first Native person to lead an RCMP division in the force’s history.
