The United Native Nations is now under new leadership, with Scott Clark elected as the organization's new president, and Lillian George elected as vice-president.

The elections were held at the campus of the University of British Columbia during the UNN annual general meeting July 14 to 16.

Clark is a member of the Beecher Bay First Nation and a citizen of the Coast Salish Nation, a former UNN vice president, elected in 1996 and re-elected to the position in 1998. With his most recent victory, he becomes the 11th UNN president since the organization was founded in 1969.

According to information provided by the UNN, Clark believes the organization must "move forward in a new direction, ensuring that we are first a political lobbying organization, representing the interests of all Indigenous peoples, particularly Elders, women, youth, children and the disabled."

Vice-president George is a member of the Wet'suwet'en Nation, a former UNN director, and a long-time member of the organization. George is a founding member of the Prince George Native Friendship Centre and the Central Interior Native Health Society, and was involved in developing the Native Healing Centre, a sexual abuse intervention program offered through the Native Friendship Centre.
