In late August, the Nadleh Band was on the front page of the Prince George Free Press concerning a fight with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) over commercial fishing.
The band, which is located near Fort Fraser, was taking orders for salmon despite government regulations that prohibits Native people from selling their catch.
However, band manager Archie Patrick says that Nadleh can prove that it's members have always sold salmon and that they are within their traditional territory. The Delgamuuk court case has cleared the way for them to proceed and they intend to do so.
A fishing boat was moored under the bridge on the Nautley River with a gill net inside ready to harvest the wild salmon. Local community members were catching the sockeye using other traditional methods when a DFO helicopter came and hovered over the location.
