Teachers from Aboriginal communities will be able to attend workshops about mining and minerals thanks to $60,000 in government funding that will cover the cost of transportation, accommodation, per diems and salaries of substitute teachers for 25 program participants.
"Classroom teachers and the mineral industry formed a partnership and developed a successful education program," said Energy and Mines Minister Glenn Robertson. "With this funding, government will improve access to the program for teachers from Aboriginal schools. Many of them are from remote communities and travel costs prevented their full participation in the past.
The program was written by teachers for teachers and consists of classroom resources for teachers from kindergarten to Grade 12. The teachers will be given resource materials featuring information on minerals, mining and geoscience to incorporate into their curricula.
