The University of British Columbia confered an honorary doctor of laws, honoris causa degree on Chief Robert Joseph of the Kwagiulth Nation on May 26.

As a hereditary chief, Chief Joseph has been involved in First Nation activities at the local, provincial and national levels. He has worked as a museum director and curator, and is currently the executive director for the Residential School Project, bringing resolution to First Nation peoples recovering from residential school experiences.
