Manik 1derful is a 21-year-old Haida and Cree emcee living in Vancouver. He has been an emcee since he was 13 years old. Manik's been focused on hip hop for the past eight years, and did his first show when he was 15. He's been especially busy the past two years.
"Altogether, I've done about 35 shows locally, and benefit shows and fundraisers for just about everything. The biggest event I've done was this summer at Under the Volcano (Vancouver Art Festival) on the main stage. Presently, I'm in the process of recording and independently releasing my first solo album called Real Eyes, Realize Real Lies. Hopefully that will be out in November," said Manik, when asked about some of the things he's been doing.
Manik is a part of Native Youth Movement and is active in the Native community. As an emcee, he doesn't sell himself by focusing on being Native. He's part of the hip hop community in the Northwest.
Manik 1derful created redhiphop.com last year. So far redhiphop.com has successfully connected youth and Native emcees throughout Canada and the United States. The Web site is visually pleasing, and designed with flash animation, primarily in the colors red and black.
When you enter the Web site, you immediately are led to the audio section, which has 11 tracks done by different artists. Redhiphop.com has sections on the following: news; links, bios, guestbook, and a message board that has two battlerooms for freestylers.
Redhiphop.com lists upcoming shows from Regina to Silver Lake, California.
