First Nations University-College For A Day was held at Malaspina University-College, Cowichan Campus, on March 14. The organizing committee, co-chaired by Pam Lewis and Ruth Kroek, and their team of committee members: Fran Tait, Yvonne Connelly, Leslie Welin, Jackie Agostinis and Annette de Roux, did a great job in putting the day together.

Presentations were held at the Cowichan Campus and at the Qw'utsun Conference and Cultural Centre. The day began with 670 First Nations participants.

Prospective students came from a variety of places on Vancouver Island, and as far away as the Nicola Valley. The team of Elders, Ellen White, Louise Underwood and Ray Peter, welcomed the guests. Students stepped in many times during the day to help make the day a success.

In addition to general Malaspina University information sessions, participants were able to attend presentations from Biology, Education, Child & Youth Care, First Nations Women's Studies, Culinary Arts, Recreation & Tourism, BA First Nations presentations and more.

Feeding more than 700 people during a 30 minute lunch break was a challenge, but it was done.

First and second year students are now preparing for the next First Nations University-College For A Day! We too are looking forward to that day!
