Evan Adams (Smoke Signals, Buffalo Tracks) guest on These Arms of Mine on CBC Television as a gay street vendor who finds himself in an unlikely pairing with show regular Steven played by Conrad Coates.
Adams is Coast Salish from the Sliammon Band near Powell River and has been seen most recently in Da Vinci's Inquest, Just Watch Me, and Canada: A People's History.
These Arms of Mine follows "a group of friends as they navigate the modern minefields of long-distance love, ambition, compromise, polite divorce, passionate possibilities, and the sheer joy of living," writes the show's publicity machine.
Currently in its debut season, the show has already tackled several controversial topics through its character-driven scripts that explore life in urban Vancouver.
The love affair between Adam's character, Adam, and Steven looks impossible on the surface. Besides the difference in their height, Steven is reserved, sophisticated and black, while Adam is exuberant and outgoing. Adam describes their relationship as a "redneck's worst nightmare." They meet by accident, fall in love almost against their will, and find that despite their apparent differences, it's only love that matters.... at least until reality sets in.
Evan Adams is a well-known activist. He was the first president of the Healing Our Spirit BC First Nations AIDS Society, and recently established a bursary for First Nations students at the University of British Columbia. Adams is currently beginning the final year of his medical degree at the University of Calgary, while continuing to pursue his passion for acting.
The show airs on Fridays at 9 p.m.
