Former track and field star Bob Rice will be one of six athletes added to the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Charles W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts in Parry Sound on June 10.
Rice, a member of Wasauksing First Nation, made a name for himself as an athlete in the 1980s. He set a number of track and field records while attending school in Parry Sound and competed nationally and internationally. In 1984, he placed twelfth in the Canadian Jr. cross-country competition, third in the Pan Am Jr. Championships, ninth in the World Jr. cross-country competition, and twenty-fourth in the Word's cross-country competition. In 1986 he competed in the Commonwealth Games.
Rice was being considered for membership on the Canadian Olympic team when an accident ended his sporting career.
Also being inducted into the hall of fame are karate master Tony Agnello, hockey and softball coach and player Aubrey Allsopp, former NHL star Gerald (Stub) Carson, Eastern Hockey League and North American Hockey League player Wayne Clairmont and golf champion Anne Gluckstein.
