Sioux Lookout, Lac Seul First Nation and Kitchenuhmaykoosib will be collaborating on a joint project for a regional distribution centre to address issues of food insecurity and health in the far north. The partners will have access to $48,000 in grants and facilitation supports through the First Nations – Municipal Community Economic Development Initiative. Through CEDI, the three communities will be able to enhance capacity-building, set up a study tour, and offset the travel costs involved in having a remote, fly-in community participate. “This tripartite partnership will greatly enhance the health and cost effectiveness of food distribution in our local and remote regions of Northwestern Ontario,” said Lac Seul Chief Clifford Bull.
