THUNDER BAY-Nishnawbe-Aski Nation announced the launch of two new Web sites during its annual chiefs' assembly in Thunder Bay on Nov. 3.

They are www.nan.on.ca and www.mynan.ca.

One provides information about NAN's organization and departments, communities, services, businesses, events, programs and contacts; the other provides information about the land, history, values, culture and heritage of the approximate 50 First Nations in Treaty 9. It is intended to be the portal of choice for anyone inside or outside of NAN territory seeking specific community information and services.

"The new Web sites address the need for improved access to NAN-based information among the Nishnawbe Aski people," said Grand Chief Stan Beardy. "This improvement in online resources will help to keep our people connected locally and regionally within NAN territory as well as globally across the world."

NAN has received help from the technology services organization K-Net, which provides computer bulletin board and e-mail service to NAN communities. Funding for the NAN portal project has come from the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor).
