Remnants of the infamous Hurricane Isabel threatened to spoil community events planned for mid-September, but organizers of the annual Wikwemikong Fall Fair were undaunted. The celebration of agriculture went off without a hitch Sept. 18 to 21.

The fair opened Thursday with a talent show and princess pageant. Wasse-Abin high school student Sheena Wasegijig was crowned princess and reigned over the weekend's festivities.

Friday's agenda included a bike relay, judging of school projects and agricultural exhibits at the arena, and a family dance in the evening.

After a satisfying pancake breakfast Saturday, six baseball teams from Sagamok/Cutler, Wiarton and Kaboni/Wikwemikong gathered for a tournament. In the end, Wiarton defeated the Wikwemikong Lumberjacks 6-1.

A parade, heavy horse draw, live entertainment and children's games drew a large crowd to the fair grounds Saturday afternoon.

The highlight turned out to be the Ktigeh Binoojiinh Baby Farmer Pageant. Energetic infants and children up to age six evoked many smiles among bystanders.

Winner in the 0-2 age category was Everette Webkamigad. The judges were won over by Naakwaan Shawanda in the 2-4 category and Miishiin Shawanda stole their hearts in the 4-6 category.

A fall fair dance with Wikwemikong's own Rum Runner band took place Saturday night, and the weather co-operated on Sunday for the wagon rides and one-mile race.

The fall fair is sponsored by the Wikwemikong Agricultural Group.
