Team Alberta North finishes third in Arctic Winter Games

March 14, 2016. Team Alberta North earned 88 ulus - 29 gold, 32 silver and 27 bronze - at the 2016 Arctic Winter Games to finish third. The games took place March 5-12 in Nuuk, Greenland, bringing together athletes from Alaska, Greenland, Northern Alberta, Northwest Territories, Nunavik, Nunavut, Yukon, Yamal (Russia) and Sapmi (Northern Scandinavia).

Team Alberta North was comprised of 239 athletes, coaches, cultural participants and mission staff, from 34 Alberta communities north of the 55th parallel. There was a strong contingent of Indigenous participants, who competed in 13 different sports and culture events including: snowshoeing, skiing, biathlon, cross country skiing, hockey, Dene Games, Arctic sports, wrestling, and volleyball.
