March 22, 2016. NorQuest College’s Alberta Aboriginal Construction Career Centre is celebrating its first year of operation. The centre opened in March 2015. “We are extremely happy with the first year,” said Jonathan Robb, NorQuest director of strategic integration and stakeholder relations. The centre had a one-year forecast to train 150 people for careers in the construction industry. In the first 12 months, 551 clients were helped with their career goals. In total, 320 people, who came to the centre looking for help in such areas as resume writing, job-search skills, and actual employment, were placed in jobs. Other statistics from Year One include 804 completed courses of training, 24 per cent female intake, and 81 per cent First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. The inclusive centre is available to people of all backgrounds.
